Synth, Synth Baby!

picture-1

Someone suggested that we do a “photo tour” of Bahen during the last DCS Ambassadors meeting (this was for the highschool visitation training) , and it got me thinking of an old demo by Microsoft.  They were showcasing a tool called Photosynth, which would stitch together images of a particular location to generate a pseudo-3D recreation of the environment.  You can check out the details here.

Nevertheless, I was really intrigued with the idea of photosynth-ing Bahen, so I brought my digicam with me to take some snaps of the building.  All photos were taken using a simple point-and-shoot digicam, a Canon Powershot SD790 IS

I took about 150 – 200 pictures for each sets, and I think they turned out pretty nicely.  I’ll let the links speak for themselves.

–edit Non-Windows users beware.  You’ll have to install Microsoft Silverlight to get this to work.  It won’t run as fast but meh, just don’t go fullscreen.  Oh and their website will be stupid even after you install Silverlight.  It’ll say something like it doesn’t support your OS.  Just ignore that and click on Go ahead and give it a try! and it should work.  Cheers!

I’ll post more details about how I did the photos for this later.  I’m kinda suprised how well these turned out.  I’m thinking about re-doing the Bahen Lobby one because it gets pretty screwy at times. Anyways, enjoy for now!
